Tour the Sites and Sounds of Galveston Island.

You steer your way to a shady park, spreading out your new blanket or beach towel and unload your picnic basket filled with an assortment of food and beverages, all available from Salt Water Gift Shop. After a relaxing repast you peddle over to the Strand in your fancy 19th century-style surrey and visit La King’s, a throwback confectionary and ice cream parlor. Here you observe a taffy pulling exhibition and sample quality candies and a malted milkshake at the old-style soda fountain.

As you travel further down the gas-lamped street, you notice the Victorian-era architecture restored to its natural beauty. Close your eyes and you are sure to hear the clip clop of a horse-drawn carriage passing by. Around the corner, see the towering masts of the 1877 tall ship Elissa moored to the pier, reminiscent of the days when Galveston first became an active seaport to the world. Further down the street, take a moment to view one of Galveston’s 200 historical markers along with the remains of Maison Rouge, home to the notorious pirate Jean Lafitte.

Start your historical jaunt across Galveston with a visit to Salt Water Gift Shop, home of the surrey bike. We have all your picnic supply needs and can guide you to many of the city’s more notable spots.
